ARE you one of those people who rarely touch the Qur’an? Or do you read daily, but don’t find it is having the impact on you that it should? Whatever the case may be, these are some simple tips that can help you connect with the Qur’an.
1. Before you touch it, check your heart.The key to really benefiting from the Qur’an is to check your heart first, before you even touch Allah’s Book. Ask yourself, honestly, why you are reading it. Is it to just get some information and to let it drift away from you later? Remember that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was described by his wife as a “walking Qur’an”: in other words, he didn’t just read and recite the Qur’an, he lived it.
2. Do your Wudu (ablution).Doing your Wudu is good physical and mental preparation to remind you that you’re not reading just another book. You are about to interact with God, so being clean should be a priority when communicating with Him.
3. Read at least 5 minutes everyday.Too often, we think we should read Qur’an for at least one whole hour. If you aren’t in the habit of reading regularly, this is too much. Start off with just five minutes daily. If you took care of step one, Insha Allah (God willing), you will notice that those five minutes will become 10, then half an hour, then an hour, and maybe even more!
4. Make sure you understand what you’ve read.Five minutes of reading the Qur’an in Arabic is good, but you need to understand what you’re reading. Make sure you have a good translation of the Qur’an in the language you understand best. Always try to read the translation of what you’ve read that day.
5. Remember, the Qur’an is more interactive than a CD.In an age of “interactive” CD-Roms and computer programs, a number of people think books are passive and boring. But the Qur’an is not like that. Remember that when you read the Qur’an, you are interacting with Allah. He is talking to you, so pay attention.
6. Don’t just read; listen too.There are now many audio cassettes and CDs of the Qur’an, a number of them with translations as well. This is great to put on your walkman or your car’s CD or stereo as you drive to and from work. Use this in addition to your daily Qur’an reading, not as a replacement for it.
7. Make Dua (supplication). Ask Allah to guide you when you read the Qur’an. Your aim is to sincerely, for the love of Allah, interact with Him by reading, understanding and applying His blessed words. Making Dua to Allah for help and guidance will be your best tool for doing this.

One thousand Gazan dead,another three thousand born.

The signs of Allah’s greatness keep on occurring. During the recent Israeli attack that had killed 1500 Palestinians, Allah made 3700 babies appeared. “If they killed a thousand of us, then we will bring on thousands more as their replacements,” thus a mother in Gaza said.
In contrast to the mentality of the Zionist-Jews forces who are known to be afraid of death, giving birth is a part of Jihad for the Gazan citizens. Due to that, death is not a thing that they cry over.
If there are phrases that say, “One gone, a thousand emerged,” then in Gaza what happened was “One thousand Gazan gone, three thousands more appeared”. The sorrow of the Gazan citizens over the death of 1412 sons and daughters of Gaza, was straight away soothed by Allah SWT with the birth of 3700 babies. Interestingly, they were all born within the 22 days of Israeli attacks on this small city.
Hamam Nisman, the Director of the Social Communication Service in the Health Ministry of the Gazan government said that in 22 days of Israeli attack, a total of 3700 babies were born in Gaza.
“3700 babies have been born between the 27th December 2008 and 17th January 2009 when Israel launched assaults that had caused the death of 1412 Gazan citizens, in which the majority of them are made up of women and children,” he said.
In January alone, the number of birth is the highest ever being registered compared to the other months preceding it. “50 thousands cases of birth are recorded every year in Gaza, and in each month around 3000 to 4000 births are recorded. However during the 22 days of Israeli attacks, we recorded 3700 number of births and for the rest of January, 1300 number of births were recorded. This means that there was an increase in the number of births in the month of January till it reached 1000 cases,” he said as cited by islamonline.net.
“This is a ‘karomah’ for the people of Gaza, who had lost a lot of souls,” he expressed full of happiness.
According to him, if the numbers of death and birth in Gaza are compared , then the number of birth reaches 50 thousands whereas the number of death reaches 5 thousands every year.
“Israel is deliberately killing the women and children in order to destroy the future of Gaza, 440 children and 110 women had been killed and 2000 children as well as 1000 women were wounded,” he revealed.
“The New Anwar” Sent Down From Heaven
Anwar, is the name of a Gazan new-born baby from the family of Mahmud Ulyan. It was also the name of his blood brother who had been Shaheed earlier. “They had killed Anwar, and heaven is now sending down the new Anwar”
The Al Yarmuk street, west of Gaza city had lost 15 of its residents during the Israeli attacks. However they now have received 30 newborn babies, born during that period.
It seems that Israel will keep on confronting the demographic problem of Palestine, where the number of birth in the country is increasing after the war occurred. Ummu Ahmad, the mother of 4 children affirmed the matter.
“By the wills of Allah, I will give birth to one child every year, we will keep on fighting them, if they kill a thousand of us, then we will bring on thousands others to replace them.”
The statistics showed that in the last 10 years, there was an increase in the number of population in Gaza, from 1 million it now becomes 1.5 millions. It means that the increase has reached 50%. If Gaza contributed 36% into the total population of Palestine in 1997, now the population of Gaza makes up 40 % of the overall population of Palestine.
It is estimated that by the year 2025 the citizens of Palestine would reach 6 millions. It is this growth that worries Israel. Urnun Suvir, a lecturer at the University of Haifa wrote in his latest book, that the increase in the number of Palestinian population would threaten the strategy of Israel and endanger the existence of “Israeli State”.
Israel can anytime make their plan, however the fact is that the plan of Allah is far more formidable and greater.

Make Du’aa, Indeed Du’aa is the Weapon of the Believer

Great article – These days, as we read about the tragedy occuring in Gaza, the question on our minds is: What can WE do about it? How can WE help our brothers and sisters in Palestine?
There is no doubt that there is nothing more greater than turning to Allah (swt) to seek His Mercy and His Assistance during these difficult times and as the Prophet (saw) said “Our Lord descends to the lowest heaven during the last third of the night, inquiring: ‘Who will call on Me so that I may respond to him? Who is asking something of Me so I may give it to him? Who is asking for My forgiveness so I may forgive him?'” (Al-Bukhari)
It will take less than two minutes – contact your MP that this is a matter of emergency. Show your dismay and disappointment at the Government’s refusal to condemn the assaults on Gaza and its refusal to demand an immediate stop to all military activity. Ask your MP why Israel’s bombings of mosques, UN schools and university buildings in Gaza have gone uncriticised.
MPs do work for you, so get writing and insist on your MP seeking clear answers on your behalf from the Foreign Secretary to questions such as these:
(a) Why has the UK not clearly condemned the savage bombardment of Gaza by the Israelis?
(b) Does the UK Government accept that the Israeli action is barbaric and a crime against humanity?
(c) How does the UK Government think it will be able to legitimately defend its position as a member of the Quartet brokering peace in the Middle East when it fails to condemn the actions of a state which threatens beyond all doubt prospects for a lasting peace?
(d) Does not the Government’s refusal to condemn the Israelis insinuate complicity in the latter’s attempt to rout a democratically elected government and seek peace on its term and its terms alone? Is this the Government’s idea of a lasting peace in Palestine?
(e) The Government failed in summer 2006 to call for a ceasefire while the Israelis bombed Lebanon repeatedly destroying much of the country’s infrastructure. Refuse to allow it to sit back and do nothing once again.
(f) Does the UK Government not accept that its refusal to condemn the Israelis renders hollow all its protestations on its commitment to peace in the Middle East and its PREVENT agenda, on tackling the causes of radicalization in the UK?

Raise Your Voice and Your Pen
What is happening in Gaza is all over the news, on TV, on radio and on internet discussion forums. The Israeli Media Strategy document procured by ENGAGE shows clearly that dominating the news, controlling the dissemination of information and framing the war is as much a part of Israel’s assaults on Gaza as the raining down of missiles.
Don’t restrict your outrage and fulminating to shaking your fists at the television. Do something, contact details for major TV stations and Newspapers – speak out, write .. email…contribute your comments and views to what is going on.
(a) Is the news dominated by Israeli spokespeople? If so, why. There are two sides in this war and the views of both must be made available to us. How else are we to judge who is the victim and who the aggressor? Say no to Israeli spin and Israeli centred news coverage.

Go to your local mosque and ask them to formally write an urgent letter TODAY to your MP making the points above and demand a meeting with the MP. Ask your local mosque to begin collections for the Palestinians and to make the issue of Gaza the content of the Friday sermon. Ensure that your mosque uses its position in the local community to protest on the community’s behalf on what is taking place in Gaza. While Muslims pray for the souls of those that have lost their lives in recent days, take steps to prevent the further loss of life. Make sure your mosque is actively involved in more than just being a place for prayer.

Interfaith Initiatives
Ask your local mosque and community centres to seek out Christian and Jewish places of worship and centres in your local community and join together in initiatives to bring peace to Palestine. Muslims, Jews and Christians reside in the Palestinian Territories and all faith groups should be working together to denounce the murderous actions of the Zionists in Israel and work for interfaith harmony and social peace.
Online petitions
Create or sign online petitions to be presented to your MP and the Government demanding that they call for an immediate stop to all military activity by Israel. Urge all your friends to sign a petition and insist that your elected representatives heed the protests of their electorate.
British Banks and Charities working for the Palestinians
Write to Lloyds TSB and Barclays Bank anew and insist that the banks reverse their decisions on closing the bank accounts of Interpal and Ummah Welfare Trust. The work of these charities will be needed now more than ever. Insist that the banks re-open the charities’ accounts so that you might donate and contribute to the provision of emergency aid to the embattled Gazans.
There are many individuals and organisations who are speaking out against this massacre. We need to support them, this really makes a difference – they will be no doubt be swamped by zionists condemning them so let’s show some support.

A family burned in NY, mom died, 4 daughters severely burned due to a gas explosion a year ago, one lost three fingers, one lost her eye sight.
Many non-Muslims have been gratefully helping them, yet many Muslims in NY don’t know about their case.
Their mom was completely unrecognizable at the hospital. Before she died, she removed all of her gold (jewelry) and asked for it to be given to charity, because she knew her death was coming, subhanAllah. At the day when sister Lazeena visited them for Eid, the children, one by one sat on their father’s lap and repeated after him, making du’a for Allah to place their mother in Jannah and to reunite them all together there with her, Ameen.
Then Leena came home. SubhanAllah it was much more emotional seeing her because of her being blind. She walked into the living room, her arms stretched out feeling around. Her father told her she had guests and she was beaming. She felt around the livingroom hugging us, kissing us and giggling. No doubt she was the one who laughed and smiled the most out of all of them mashaAllah. However, it’s obvious she still needs time to get comfortable with her condition. Eating is very difficult for her to do on her own, she also seems to get really irritated and emotional whenever she’s playing with her sisters and they take something from her or even get up and leave without telling her. She starts wailing right away and throwing a tantrum. I can only imagine how she must feel. Remember she wasn’t born blind, she remembers the world of sight I’m sure, subhanAllah, and so now being trapped in a world of darkness will take her a lot of time to get used to, but overall she’s very happy mashaAllah.
