Asalaamu’alaykum
There are 29/30 days in an Islamic Month.
Each month is confirmed by the sighting of the new moon, or by the completion of thirty days of that month – same applies for Ramadan, it is either confirmed by the sighting of the new moon, or by the completion of thirty days of Sha’baan.
The Prophet Muhammad (s) said: “Do not fast until you see the crescent, and do not break fast until you see the crescent; but if there are clouds, complete the calculation of thirty days.” (Bukhari/Muslim)
Today (Tue 11/09/07) was the 29th of Shabaan, as the moon has not been sighted by a Muslim anywhere in the world – we are to complete thirty days of Sha’baan as the Prophet (s) instructed us and start fasting for Ramadaan the day after. Thus tommarow (Wed 12/09/07) is the 30th of Sha’baan; making Thur (13/09/07) the 1st of Ramadaan.
~ And Allah Knows Best.
